Get The Right TV for your New Gaming Console

MISSISSAUGA
, Ont. (September 24, 2020) — These are exciting times in the video gaming world.

By the holiday season, the two largest players in the home video game market will be releasing new platforms, promising an immersive gaming experience unlike any seen to date. More life-like graphics, vibrant colours, seamless action and deep sounds — but to get the full effects of the new console, you will want to make sure your television is up to the task.

“A good majority of next generation game releases are targeting a higher quality 4k 60fps for their performance rather than the 120fps mark we had assumed early on,” says YouTuber and Tech Enthusiast Andrew ‘Qwazyd0gg’ Wright. “This means the need for HDMI 2.1 ports is not as much of a necessity as we had assumed prior to launch, and more focus and consideration should be placed within panel timings, HDR performance, brightness and other features that will make the largest tangible impact to next-gen gamers.”

When looking for that perfect TV for your new system, you should be looking for:

  • HDR — Ray Tracing and HDR are key features on the new consoles, so a bright TV is a must. HDR, short form of high-dynamic range, is a massive range of colours, which appear brighter and in greater contrast. It is great for dark scenes in games. For ideal gaming you want a TV that puts out at least 600 nits (a nit is a term for brightness, with one nit being equivalent to the amount of light one candle would produce across a square metre). For comparison purposes, a TV produced before the advent of HDR was likely putting out 100 to 300 nits. The Hisense Q9G Quantum Dot unit projects close to 1,000 nits, which creates a high level of contrast, clear separation of blacks and whites and makes colours pop.

  • Low Input Lag — Video games move fast, and if your refresh or motion rate is low the images on the screen will blur. Stellar motion technology produces crisp, clear action the screen at all times. The lower the input lag, the better. Hisense’s Quantum Dot TVs reach sub 14ms, an excellent rate for gaming

  • Game Mode — Check the picture settings for Game Mode, which will optimize input lag and response time. It supports a lower lag rate by speeding up the connection from your console to the TV. In regular mode, a Hisense Quantum Dot TV has a lag of about 109ms, which drops to 14ms or lower in Game Mode.

  • MEMC — A chip (Motion Estimation / Motion Compensation) that is used to interpolate extra images on your TV, which is a fancy way of saying it works with the refresh or motion rate to smooth out the picture.

  • Local Dimming — By automatically dimming the backlight on black parts of the image on the screen, local dimming gives deeper and darker blacks and better contrast and colour accuracy.

  • Ports — While it is the quality of the picture that matters most, you need to take a look behind the TV to make sure it has enough ports to handle all of your devices.

For the ultimate gaming experience, the Hisense L5F Laser TV is ideal. Big screen, big sound, crisp picture, bright colours and dark blacks. This next-generation projection TV is unlike any of its ancestors, with eight million pixels displaying a picture using DLP Theatre Technology onto a screen as big as 120 inches.

If a Laser TV is beyond the budget, a Quantum Dot TV will do perfectly. The Hisense Q9 series is a 4K QLED TV that uses a sophisticated process and wide colour gamut to bring your games to life with a palette of more than a billion colours, perfectly expressed. Equipped with HDR10+ (pushing 1,000 nits), Game Mode, four HDMI ports and available with screens as big as 65 inches, it is the perfect gaming partner.

“A lot of TVs in this category are labelled as HDR or Dolby Vision, but when you look at their nits measurement, some of them are hitting 200 to maybe 400 nits, and anything under 600 nits is not a tangible return for true HDR,” says Mr. Wright. “In the Q9 series, the colour accuracy is fantastic. It has four ports, including one supporting ARC. With the new gaming consoles, the games will look fantastic on the Q9 panel.”
